This conversation with Gavin and Brendan was a huge honor and a real delight! We were truly obsessed with this band, and they were incredibly fun and generous with their time. In part 1, we ask their thoughts about our hot takes on Traffic Jam, talk about some of the virtues and challenges of their unique songwriting style, and discuss some of the context around their final album “Maximum Unicorn.” You can also hear the earth-shattering moment when we learn we’ve been mispronouncing the names of multiple members of our favorite band for two decades. We also welcome listeners to write in to help us figure out what exactly “letting the dog out” is a euphemism for. And make sure to stay tuned for part 2 next week where we’ll listen to and discuss “Maximum Unicorn.”
